Plot
Set against the backdrop of 1965, shortly after the Civil Rights Act, this poignant drama reveals the ongoing struggles faced by African-American citizens in Bogalusa. Despite legal advancements, systemic oppression and violent intimidation from the local KKK persist. The narrative centers on a group of local black men, many of whom are ex-servicemen. Frustrated by relentless discrimination, they form the "Deacons for Defense." This courageous all-black defense organization takes to the streets to safeguard their community from escalating white hostility, embodying resilience and solidarity in the fight for justice.
