Plot
In 140 AD, Marcus Aquila, a young centurion, ventures from Rome to uncover the truth behind the enigmatic vanishing of the Ninth Legion in Scotland two decades earlier. Determined to restore his father’s honor, who led the legion, he is joined by Esca, his British slave. Their journey takes them beyond Hadrian's Wall into the perilous highlands of Caledonia. As they face fierce tribes, Marcus seeks not only the lost emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth, but also a way to reconcile with his father’s legacy and the shadow it casts over his own life.
