Plot
After committing a bank heist, Murphy finds himself in a tight spot when he takes on the identity of a renowned U.S. Marshal in a small town. Confronted by the local judge, played by Matthau, he’s coerced into serving as the new Marshal. Complicating matters, an ex-lover, Scala, nearly exposes him but ends up pretending to be his wife to protect a young orphan boy under Matthau's care. As the duo navigates their new lives, Scala grapples with her loyalty to her bank-robbing boyfriend and her unexpected feelings for Murphy.
