Originally premiered in 1971, The Purple Horizon is a poignant war romance set during the Vietnam War, adapted from a novel by military author Van-Quang. After being lost for over four decades post the fall of Saigon in 1975, the film has been restored from surviving 35mm prints by Imagica Lab and is now housed at UCLA Film and TV Archive. Offering a rare glimpse into the lives of Southern Vietnamese people, the story follows soldier Phi and singer Lien, who dream of escaping their harsh realities to a serene place they call the Purple Horizon.
