Plot
Orphaned as a baby, Anne (Asta Nielsen) is left in the care of the Storlein family when her traveling mother seeks refuge. Unfortunately, they are turned away and must find shelter in the barn. Tragically, Anne's mother doesn't survive the night, leaving her alone. The farmhand Jon discovers the two and brings Anne into the Storlein household. Growing up amidst the family's dynamics, Anne navigates her new life, seeking connection and belonging while grappling with the shadow of her past.
