Plot

Newfoundland filmmaker Tamara Segura, once dubbed “Cuba’s youngest soldier” during a militia publicity stunt, delves into her fraught relationship with her father against the backdrop of the Cuban Revolution in her documentary, Seguridad. A scholarship to study film in Canada provides her with necessary distance from her father's alcoholism. Upon returning to Cuba after four years, she hopes to reconcile, but his unexpected death shortly after her arrival compels her to investigate his turbulent past and the impact of Cuba’s militarized society on his life. Through heartfelt family interviews and poignant photographs, Segura reveals enduring love and resilience amidst buried secrets.
