In 1930s Budapest, Laszlo, a restaurant proprietor, brings in the talented pianist András to perform at his establishment. Both men become enamored with the enchanting waitress, Ilona, who serves as the muse for András's haunting composition, "Gloomy Sunday." Initially celebrated, the song soon becomes a source of dread as its sorrowful tune is linked to a series of tragic suicides. The delicate dynamic between the three is further complicated when Hans, a German, also develops feelings for Ilona, disrupting their intricate love triangle.
