Her Beloved Villain (1920)

Plot

Wealthy French lawyer Louis Martinot has to leave town for work and asks his friend, Paul Blythe, to look into the background of a young woman named Susanne Bergomat. If Paul finds her family appropriate, he can propose to her for Louis. However, upon meeting Susanne, Paul is instantly smitten. To win her over for himself, he fabricates a story, claiming that her family is unsuitable because her mother is mentally unstable. Paul then directly proposes to Susanne, who happily accepts. As Paul's deceit begins to unravel, a series of humorous mishaps ensue as the truth comes out.
