On a picturesque island near California, the Fourth of July festivities take a dark turn as tourists begin to wash ashore lifeless in Babylon Bay. Decades earlier, in 1987, whispers of deadly sea creatures known as Aquanoids led to 17 gruesome fatalities, but the Mayor dismissed these tales to safeguard the tourism industry. Environmentalist Vanessa DuMont finds herself embroiled in a battle not only to protect the endangered abalone on Santa Clara Island but also for her very survival against a lurking menace that threatens the community.
