Plot
In 1936, as tensions rise along the Manchurian border, 60-year-old Shozaburo Oshima worries about his son Ryuji's future. Rejecting the family legacy of gambling, Ryuji aspires to be a doctor. He takes a position at a clinic near a dam construction site, where he confronts the brutal treatment of laborers. When he stands up to a ruthless boss, he learns that his father's notorious reputation shields him. However, tragedy strikes when Ryuji discovers that his father has been murdered by a rival gang, led by his estranged mother, who had to leave Shozaburo due to the gambling code.
