Plot
Leroy Jones, a humble orange picker, unexpectedly finds himself thrust into the role of union leader, prompting his exile from town. He leaves behind his womanizing father, Rufus, and his shy wife, Annie Mae. Traveling to Los Angeles, Leroy develops feelings for union organizer Vanetta. Meanwhile, Annie Mae turns to local preacher Lenox Thomas for comfort, leading to an unexpected pregnancy. When Leroy learns of this twist, he returns home to confront Lenox, setting the stage for a dramatic confrontation.
