Plot
At the dawn of the 20th century, Claude Roc, a young Frenchman from a middle-class background, forms a close friendship with Ann, an English girl. During his stay with Ann's family, he finds himself enamored with her sister, Muriel. However, their budding romance is complicated by an agreement between both families, enforcing a year-long separation without any communication before the couple can consider marriage.
