Plot

Burleigh Sullivan, a timid milkman, unwittingly knocks out the drunken champion boxer Speed McFarlane, who had been flirting with his sister. The press eagerly seizes the story, capturing Burleigh in the act of knocking out Speed again. Seizing an opportunity, Speed's unscrupulous manager decides to transform Burleigh into a fighter. Oblivious to the fact that his opponents are deliberately losing, Burleigh begins to believe in his prowess, straining his romance with nightclub singer Polly Pringle. Tensions rise as he prepares to face Speed for the title, potentially setting the stage for a humbling defeat.
