Set against the backdrop of Hungary's 1919 revolution and its descent into fascism, Agnus Dei explores themes of power and betrayal. A revolutionary army, seeking justice, spares the life of the zealous priest Vargha. However, Vargha returns to incite brutal massacres. Meanwhile, a figure named Feher emerges, seemingly championing the oppressed. Yet, his actions ultimately reveal a troubling truth: he replaces one form of tyranny with another, more insidious version of oppression, highlighting the cyclical nature of violence and control in the quest for liberation.
