Plot
Rita finds herself back in her childhood village in 1961, recovering from a breakdown. Amid her healing, memories of the past two years flood back: her passionate romance with Manfred, a chemist a decade older, whose excitement over a groundbreaking chemical process turned to disillusionment when faced with bureaucratic hurdles. Just weeks before the Berlin Wall's construction, he fled to West Berlin, leaving Rita to grapple with the hope that she would join him. As she reflects on their relationship, the weight of love and separation unfolds against a backdrop of political turmoil.
