Shay, a young African-American college student, is compelled to pause her education and return to her small hometown. There, she faces deep-seated anger and insecurity as she confronts her mother, Nona, an alcoholic now attending AA and church. The unresolved pain from her tumultuous childhood, marked by neglect and abuse, resurfaces, forcing Shay to grapple with her emotions and her mother’s past actions. As they navigate this fraught relationship, Shay must decide whether to forgive or to move forward burdened by her past.
