Plot
In 1955 Switzerland, young orphan Max is placed with the Bösiger family as a foster child, where he faces harsh treatment and relentless humiliation from their son. His only solace lies in playing the accordion, a passion that remains his own. When a new teacher advocates for him, it backfires, worsening his plight. Amid the turmoil, Max finds strength in his friendship with Berteli, another farm worker. Together, they escape into dreams of a brighter future in Argentina, a place where everything, even hayforks, glimmers with promise.
