Plot
César operates a bustling bar by the port of Marseille, where his 23-year-old son, Marius, helps him. Marius shares a deep bond with Fanny, his childhood companion, but a yearning for adventure pulls him away whenever a ship whistles. When the older M. Panisse proposes to Fanny and a departing clipper offers Marius a chance to escape, both must confront their true desires. Amidst this emotional turmoil, César, with his wisdom and kindness, endeavors to steer his son toward the right choice, balancing love and ambition.
