Set against the backdrop of historical repression, Sefarad unfolds in 1496 when King D. Manuel bans Judaism in Portugal. Fast forward 400 years, and Barros Basto, a Portuguese army captain who embraced Judaism, along with around twenty Jewish merchants, establishes the Jewish Community of Oporto. Their efforts to reclaim their heritage and foster a vibrant community reflect the enduring spirit of a people striving for identity and acceptance amidst centuries of discrimination. The film poignantly explores themes of faith, resilience, and the fight against intolerance.
