David Charleston, a once celebrated journalist, now leads a solitary existence tending the Thunder Rock lighthouse on Lake Michigan. Isolated from the world and untouched by his paychecks, he engages in vivid conversations with the spirits of 60 passengers lost in a historic shipwreck. Through these encounters, he reflects on their struggles and dreams, as well as his own futile attempts in the 1930s to raise awareness about the looming threats of fascism and war. Among the spectral voices are a defiant spinster seeking autonomy and a doctor ostracized for his unconventional practices, reigniting David's dwindling hope for a brighter future.
