Georges Laffont, haunted by the brutalities of World War I, seeks solace in West Africa during the early 1920s. Partnering with Diofo, a fellow war survivor and artist, he attempts to enlist villagers from Upper Volta to work on Ghanaian plantations. However, his venture spirals into failure, leaving him disillusioned. Ultimately, Georges returns to Paris, grappling with his identity and longing for a sense of belonging in a world that feels increasingly alien. The journey reflects his struggle to reconcile the scars of war with the quest for purpose.
