A delivery truck traversing a desolate Southern California highway in 1979 encounters disaster when a blowout sends it crashing into a tree. The impact shatters the aquarium containing a lethal tropical rattlesnake, allowing it to escape and kill the driver before disappearing into the wilderness. Fast forward to 1999, and the once-small town of San Vicente has swelled from 6,000 to 30,000 residents. The escaped rattler has thrived, resulting in a dangerous population of 25,000 hybrid snakes now descending into the town, drawn by the sounds of construction. Progress, it seems, has unleashed a nightmare.
