Dmitry Muratov's courageous journey highlights the fight for freedom of speech in Russia. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2021, Muratov leads Novaya Gazeta, the nation’s sole independent newspaper, despite the assassination of six of his journalists. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, he cleverly orchestrates a covert escape for forty journalists during a documentary festival, securing their safety with Latvian authorities. Yet, Muratov remains in Moscow, steadfast in his commitment to his paper and its team, defiantly stating, “Putin stands for death. I stand for life.”
