Plot
Ditte, an illegitimate child, navigates her early years with the love of her elderly grandmother. At school, she endures teasing and yearns for a father figure. Her life takes a hopeful turn when Lars Petter, a dependable herring merchant, announces his marriage to Ditte's mother, bringing joy to the little girl. However, she soon faces the challenges of caring for her new siblings while dealing with her selfish mother's complaints. Despite these struggles, Ditte finds solace and support in her newfound family, particularly from Lars Petter and her siblings.
