Return to Gandhi Road explores the remarkable journey of Kangyur Rinpoche, a revered Tibetan Master. Responding to the threats posed by the 1950s Cultural Revolution and guided by the Dalai Lama, he risked everything to traverse the treacherous Himalayas and save two tons of invaluable Buddhist texts from destruction. Upon reaching Darjeeling, he established a monastery at 54 Gandhi Road, attracting Western seekers in the late 1960s. The narrative unfolds through Kim Hegan, a New Zealander who revisits this transformative path more than four decades later, aiming to honor Rinpoche’s legacy and confront his own past.
