Plot
Laurent van Horn leads a group of Dutch refugees seeking freedom in the Carolinas, but their ship runs aground at Cartagene, ruled by the tyrannical Don Juan Alvardo. Imprisoned by Alvardo, Laurent manages to escape and re-emerges five years later as a feared pirate captain. Posing as a navigator, he boards a ship carrying Contessa Francesca, who is en route to marry Alvardo, a man she has never met. After capturing her, Francesca offers her hand to Laurent to save another ship. Tensions rise among Laurent's crew as jealousy brews, leading to betrayal and a dangerous alliance with Alvardo.
