In the early 1900s, the Texas town of Cottonwood Springs finds itself at a crossroads as traditional values clash with modern aspirations. Marshal Frank Patch, a steadfast lawman, faces backlash after fatally shooting the drunken Luke Mills in self-defense. The town's leaders, eager for change, demand his resignation, but Patch stands firm, citing their commitment to his tenure. As tensions rise and the community fears the consequences of his knowledge of their secrets, the town's officials resort to desperate measures, believing that old-fashioned violence is the only way to eliminate the marshal they see as an obstacle.
