Set in the racially charged South of the 1940s, an African-American man faces a grave injustice after being falsely charged with murdering a white store owner. His defense attorney humiliates him by comparing him to a pig, suggesting he lacks awareness of his actions. Convicted and sentenced to death, he struggles with his identity. In a bid to restore his dignity, his godmother and the aunt of a local teacher persuade the educator to visit him daily, helping him reclaim his humanity and self-worth amidst the dehumanizing circumstances.
