Plot
Jihei, a prosperous paper-mill owner with a family, navigates the rigid social norms of 18th-century Japan. However, his life spirals when he encounters the enchanting courtesan Koharu, igniting an all-consuming passion. Koharu reciprocates his feelings, even turning away other patrons, as Jihei desperately tries to secure her freedom. His fixation leads to devastating repercussions for both his career and family. Meanwhile, fate takes a cruel turn when another client acquires Koharu, leaving Jihei to confront the staggering costs of his obsession.
