Plot

Facing exposure for financial misconduct at the Eastern trading company, Peter Willems escapes the impending scandal and potential criminal charges. Seeking refuge, he convinces merchant ship captain Lingard, his former mentor, to take him to a secluded trading post on a distant Indonesian island. There, Willems hopes to evade the consequences of his past, but isolation and the island's complexities soon challenge his attempts at hiding from his mistakes.
