Plot

King Henry II confines his formidable wife, Eleanor, in a tower to stifle her ambitions of dethroning him, allowing him to indulge in an affair with a younger mistress. Despite their strained relationship, Eleanor still harbors feelings for Henry and orchestrates a plot through their sons to elevate her favored child, Richard, to the throne. Meanwhile, the inept John, the king’s current favorite after the death of young Henry, conspires with Geoffrey and the young king of France, Phillip, to seize power. A web of political maneuvering and familial betrayal unfolds in the royal court.
