Plot

Four "Picture Brides" journey from New Orleans to the Brazilian jungle, arriving on a riverboat destined for Lottagrasso, a secluded mining site run by Standard Diamond Mines. Among these brides—Americans Mame Smith and Flo Lane, Englishwoman Gwen, and Lena from Europe—is Mary Lee, a timid girl seeking an audience with the mine's harsh supervisor, Von Luden, in hopes of securing employment. As they navigate the challenges of their new lives, the women confront both the promise and peril of their choices in this rugged, unfamiliar land.
