Plot

Matthew VanDyke, a timid young man from Baltimore grappling with OCD, seems an unlikely candidate for the chaos of the 2011 Libyan revolution. However, after completing his graduate studies and seeking adventure abroad, he embarks on a journey that leads him to North Africa and the Middle East. As he motorcycles through the region and reports from Iraq, Matthew finds himself in Libya, where he bonds with a group of young rebels. Inspired, he joins their fight against Gaddafi, wielding both a weapon and a camera, but his journey takes a dark turn when he is captured and endures six harrowing months in solitary confinement.
