Plot
In the 16th century, the young and driven Portuguese navigator Fernão de Magalhães defies King Manuel I, who dismisses his aspirations to explore the globe. He successfully convinces the Spanish Crown to back his daring journey toward the legendary East. The expedition turns out to be more grueling than anticipated, as hunger and discontent threaten to tear the crew apart. Once they arrive at the Malayan Archipelago, Magalhães' perspective shifts dramatically. He becomes consumed by the desire for conquest and conversion, leading to tumultuous uprisings that spiral out of his control.
