Plot

Resident Orca chronicles the desperate struggle to liberate Lolita, a captive killer whale who has spent 53 years performing in a cramped tank. After numerous unsuccessful rescue attempts, a coalition emerges, uniting Indigenous matriarchs, a wealthy philanthropist, marine specialists, and the aquarium's new owner. As they embark on this daunting mission, Lolita’s health deteriorates dramatically, raising a heartbreaking dilemma for her advocates: have they run out of time to rescue her? The film highlights themes of resilience, compassion, and the urgent need for reform in animal captivity.
