Plot

In 1880, Sir Robert Cargrave, a London doctor renowned for his innovative paralysis treatments, receives an urgent invitation from the enigmatic Baron Sardonicus. The baron, now wed to Cargrave's ex-wife Maude, seeks help for his grotesque disfigurement. Upon arrival in Gorslava, Cargrave discovers that the baron is a sadistic tyrant, wielding his power to intimidate Maude with threats of violence. With his former love’s safety hanging in the balance, Cargrave must navigate the baron’s cruel demands while grappling with the moral implications of his medical practices.
