Stanley and Livingstone (1939)
Plot
Henry M. Stanley, an adventurous American journalist, is dispatched by his editor, James Gordon Bennett, to Africa in search of the elusive Scottish missionary Dr. David Livingstone. Recently returned from the western Indian wars, Stanley embarks on a perilous journey through the African wilderness. He ultimately discovers Livingstone, who is joyfully administering medicine and spiritual guidance to the local populace. Upon returning with his extraordinary tale, however, Stanley faces skepticism regarding his remarkable findings and the legendary meeting, famously greeting Livingstone with the now-iconic phrase, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?"
