Panihida (2012)

Plot

In a quaint village in the Republic of Moldavia, an elderly woman passes away, leaving her son Petru and granddaughter Anisoara to cope with their loss. Following their customs, the entire community gathers to mourn and pay their respects. During a stormy night, they embark on a journey to the cemetery, where the older men carry the heavy coffin along rugged paths leading to the sacred hill. As the sun shines brightly, the trek feels unending, but wine eases their thirst and songs lift their spirits. Amidst the stunning landscape, joy intertwines with grief, ultimately affirming that life triumphs over death.
