The Bird Can't Fly (2008)

Plot

Melody returns to Fairlands for her daughter June's funeral, only to find her hometown buried under sand. As she navigates this transformed landscape, she discovers she has a 10-year-old grandson, River, who is struggling to adapt to his new life. River remains fixated on hatching ostrich eggs, a bond he shared with his late mother. His father, Scoop, a laid-back musician working at the post office, wants Melody to leave town. As tensions rise, a fierce sandstorm sweeps in, forcing Melody to confront deep-seated truths and change her perspective on family and home.
