Mr. Krueger's Christmas (1980)

Plot

Willy Krueger, a solitary widower, spends his Christmas Eve in a basement apartment with only his cat, George, for companionship. After finishing his custodian duties, he ventures out to buy a Christmas tree, momentarily envisioning himself as a dapper gentleman while admiring a tailor's shop. Back home, he drifts into slumber while listening to The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and dreams of conducting them. Awakened by carolers outside, he invites them in for hot chocolate, but they depart after one song. As he decorates his tree with mittens from a young caroler, he experiences a spiritual journey, finding himself in the nativity scene of the first Christmas.
