Plot
Life in a rundown flophouse is rife with desperation, as the tenants endure the oppressive rule of their landlord, Kostyleva. Young thief Wasska Pepel tries to move on from his affair with Kostyleva's wife, Vassilissa, and finds solace in the company of her sister, Natacha. Amidst his struggles, he forms a bond with a fallen nobleman known as the baron. However, Pepel's pursuit of a better life is jeopardized when Vassilissa, driven by jealousy, falsely accuses him of murder, plunging him deeper into chaos and despair.
