In "The Commitments," Jimmy Rabbitte, a recent school leaver, envisions forming a soul band in his working-class neighborhood of Barrytown, Dublin. To bring his dream to life, he sets out to recruit musicians and vocalists. His search leads him to three talented female singers nearby, a lead singer named Deco he discovers at a wedding, and an older trumpet player, Joey "The Lips" Fagan, who answers his advertisement. As the band begins to take shape, Jimmy's ambition to create a vibrant soul scene in his community starts to unfold.
