Originally crafted as part of a theatrical production, Welles' adaptation of William Gillette's 1894 comedy revolves around a New York playboy escaping the wrath of his mistress's husband. In a twist of fate, he assumes the identity of a Cuban plantation owner awaiting a mail-order bride. Although intended to complement the Mercury Theatre's presentation, the film was never shown due to a lack of projection facilities. Once thought to be lost, a workprint resurfaced in 2008, leading to its premiere in 2013, allowing audiences to finally experience this unique cinematic endeavor.
