Waiting for Harry (1980)

Plot

In July 1978, in Djunawunya, Arnhem Land, just east of Maningrida, Frank Gurrmanamana is tasked with organizing the final mortuary rites for his brother, who passed away six years earlier. While his brother was laid to rest in Maningrida, his remains are now being returned to their ancestral land. At the heart of the ceremonies is Harry Diama, the deceased's senior blood relative, who currently resides in Maningrida and is distracted by an ongoing court case involving his son. Frank relies on Harry to approve the arrangements and to gather important attendees for the ceremonial dancing. As the ceremony approaches, Frank's anxiety mounts over Harry's absence and the lack of attendees.
