Plot
Andrew Manson, an ambitious young Scottish doctor, starts his career in a Welsh mining town, where he becomes concerned about the miners' chronic cough. Frustrated by obstacles in uncovering the ailment's source, he relocates to London, where his new practice struggles. A chance encounter with a friend reveals the profitable world of catering to wealthy hypochondriacs. However, a life-altering event forces Andrew to confront the true essence of medicine and his responsibilities as a physician, challenging his initial ideals and pushing him toward a more profound understanding of his profession.
