Elderly couple Mendel and Hannah Shapiro, who operate a modest farm in New Jersey, find themselves facing a financial crisis as they scramble to secure funds for an impending mortgage payment. With the deadline looming, Mendel reaches out to their children, Mollie in Philadelphia and Morris in New York, urging them to come home immediately. Their neighbor Michel casts doubt on the loyalty of children, suggesting they neglect their parents' needs. Despite this skepticism, Mendel remains optimistic, believing that the bond with children is the most valuable investment one can have.
