Plot

This captivating documentary captures the essence of Japan's renowned Kodo drummers during their 1998-99 "One Earth" tour, filmed in high definition. It delves into the philosophy and lives of the Kodo ensemble, whose powerful taiko drumming symbolizes the universal concept of Kodo, meaning "heartbeat" and reflecting a childlike spirit. Leading drummer Ryutaro Kaneko articulates their mission: "To beat taiko is to face yourself," emphasizing the harmony of mind, body, and spirit in drumming. With 42 members, including 20 performers, the group trains for four months annually at Kodo village on Sado Island, where they originated in the early 1970s.
