The Bought Dream offers an intimate glimpse into the Bruder family, a working-class household in Märkisches Viertel, first encountered by social worker Helga Reidemeister. Equipped with a Super-8 camera, the family began documenting their lives in 1969. However, when they reviewed their four-hour footage in 1974, it became clear the film only scratched the surface of their struggles and lacked social context. To address this, Reidemeister immersed herself in their daily life, resulting in a poignant blend of personal narrative and critical exploration of social dynamics.
