Plot
Larry Poole finds himself imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. He makes a promise to a fellow inmate to support a family upon his release. This family includes young Patsy Smith and her elderly grandfather, both in desperate need of assistance. While Larry dreams of becoming a gondolier in Venice, he instead becomes a street singer. During his performances, he encounters Susan Sprague, a welfare worker who disapproves of Patsy’s living situation and seeks to have her placed in an orphanage, complicating Larry’s efforts to help.
