The Collector (1965)

Plot

Freddie, a socially awkward bank clerk, finds solace in his butterfly collection, a rare source of power in his otherwise mundane life. After unexpectedly coming into a fortune, he purchases a country home. Struggling with loneliness and his inability to connect with others, he devises a chilling plan to acquire a girlfriend as if she were just another specimen. Preparing the cellar as his makeshift display, he meticulously stalks his chosen victim over several days, blurring the lines between obsession and desire in a haunting exploration of control and isolation.
